Splitting Data into Columns in Clay

A tip for beginners learning the basics

Clay is incredibly powerful for bringing virtually any data into your hands. There’s ultimately two ways to do this:

  1. Pulling data points from 75+ data providers.

  2. Using Claygent (AI agent) to automate manual research. An example of this is giving Claygent a mission to go to the website of all your target companies, research that site, and then come back to determine if the site has a community, pricing page, or anything else you’re looking for.

One of the most common enrichments is pulling in an enriched LinkedIn profile (either for a person or company). Ultimately, you’re pulling in a group of data.

It’s not immediate obvious for beginnings, but you can extract data from this enriched profile column and then break it out into its own column. This makes the data easier to work with, manipulate, and splice/dice for personalizing emails at scale.

This is how:

  1. Click into the Enriched Profile in the column.

  2. Hover over the data point you want to break out.

  3. Click “Add as column”.

  4. That data will now be broken out into its own new column.
