I’ve been working with the RevOps agency, Go Nimbly, who’s helped implement GTM automations for the likes of Intercom, Twilio, Rippling, Harness, and Culture Amp.

The team and their workflows have been impressive, so we decided to do a guest post automation on one of my favorite workflows. (Let me know if you want to do one)

The Challenge: Unlocking and using Gong call transcript data to build custom workflows such as: custom call summaries, enrichments of new attendees, personalized copy creation, and automated follow up (connect + message) on LinkedIn and via Gong Engage.

The Solution: Create a Clay table that monitors a webhook. New call transcripts are sent into Clay. Enrichments are kicked off. AI synthesizes and summarizes with a custom prompt. Outreach is kicked off on LinkedIn and via Gong Engage.

Creating a Clay Table Using the Gong API + Hey Reach + Gong Engage Integrations

Hi there!

I’m Alex Carstens, a RevOps Consultant with Go Nimbly. I specialize in helping revenue teams unlock their full potential through seamless tool integrations and process optimization. In this guide, I’ll walk you through integrating Gong’s powerful API with Clay to build a dynamic table for managing call data.

We’ll also add two exciting integrations:

  • Hey Reach: Automates LinkedIn outreach to meeting attendees.

  • Gong Engage: Streamlines sales engagement workflows and tracks post-meeting activity.

By the end, you’ll have a system that transforms your Gong data into actionable insights and automates critical sales workflows. Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Understanding the Workflow

Here’s the structure of the solution we’re building:

  1. HTTP API Table: Pulls call data from Gong via the API.

  2. Calls and Enrichment Table: Organizes and enriches the data for actionable insights.

  3. Hey Reach Integration: Automates LinkedIn outreach to meeting attendees.

  4. Gong Engage Integration: Tracks follow-ups and automates sales engagement workflows.

This multi-tool setup ensures smooth data flow and automation, saving your team time and effort.

Step 2: Setting Up the HTTP API Table

Purpose:

The HTTP API table pulls raw call data from Gong into Clay for processing.

Steps:

1. Configure the API Request:

  • Use the GET /v2/calls endpoint from the Gong API.

  • Add query parameters to filter data by date range:

2. Authenticate the API Request:

  • Obtain your API credentials (access key and secret) from Gong.

  • Encode your credentials in Base64 format and use them in the Authorization header:

Authorization: Basic 

{Base64EncodedAccessKey:AccessKeySecret}

3. Extract Data:

  • Pull fields like:

    • Call ID

    • Participants

    • Title

    • Call URL

    • Start and End Time

4. Send Data to Enrichment Table:

  • Use Clay’s “Write to Other Table” feature to send this raw data to the Calls and Enrichment Table.

Step 3: Building the Calls and Enrichment Table

Purpose:

The enrichment table processes raw call data, extracts deeper insights, and integrates them with CRM and engagement workflows.

Steps:

1. Integrate Gong Transcripts and Details:

  • Use the GET /v2/call_transcripts and GET /v2/call_details endpoints.

  • Extract information like:

    • Key Points

    • Primary Speaker

    • Transcripts

2. Analyze Call Sentiments:

  • Integrate with a ChatGPT-powered tool to determine if the call had a positive or negative tone.

3. Automate Enrichment:

  • Enrich the primary speaker’s data using Clay’s enrichment feature to find details like:

    • LinkedIn Profile

    • Email Address

    • Job Title

4. Prepare CRM Updates:

  • Format the enriched data for seamless updates to your CRM, ensuring all records are complete and accurate.

Step 4: Adding Hey Reach Integration

Purpose:

Hey Reach automates LinkedIn outreach to meeting attendees, ensuring follow-ups happen without manual effort.

Steps:

1. Sync Attendee Data:

  • Use the enriched data from the Calls and Enrichment Table to identify attendees and their LinkedIn profiles.

2. Automate Connection Requests:

  • Set up Hey Reach to send personalized connection requests or follow-up messages.

  • Include key details from the meeting to make the outreach relevant and engaging.

3. Track Responses:

  • Monitor outreach performance directly in Hey Reach or via your CRM.

Step 5: Integrating Gong Engage

Purpose:

Gong Engage ensures that post-meeting activity is tracked, enabling your team to stay on top of follow-ups and pipeline activity.

Steps:

1. Connect Gong Engage:

  • Link Gong Engage to your Clay setup to automatically log post-meeting activities like:

    • Follow-up Emails

    • Call Recaps

    • Meeting Notes

2. Leverage Engagement Insights:

  • Use Gong Engage’s tracking to prioritize leads based on their engagement levels.

3. Automate Tasks:

  • Automatically schedule follow-up actions, such as sending reminders or assigning tasks in your CRM.

Step 6: Putting It All Together

The Workflow in Action:

1. Pull Call Data:

  • The HTTP API Table fetches raw call data from Gong.

2. Enrich and Organize:

  • The Calls and Enrichment Table processes and enhances the data with transcripts, key points, and attendee details.

3. Automate Outreach:

  • Hey Reach sends LinkedIn requests to attendees, keeping follow-ups personalized and timely.

4. Automate Engagement:

  • Gong Engage ensures all attendees are put into a sales cadence for quick and immediate outreach.

Conclusion

By combining Gong’s API, Clay’s flexibility, Hey Reach’s automation, and Gong Engage’s engagement outreach, you’re creating a powerhouse system that drives sales efficiency. Your team can focus more on selling and less on managing data or chasing follow-ups.
